“For wherever two or three come together in honor of my name, I am right there with them!”— Jesus (Matthew 18:20 TPT)
So, this is my first blog. Please pardon my dust as the building progresses. And please ignore the formatting issues until my skills improve. But I couldn’t wait to get a word out to you.
As I was studying my Bible this week, I read the passage above which many people who call themselves Christian can quote. Jesus told us that when we, as His followers, gather together in His name (a.k.a. worshipping, studying His Word, to have Christian fellowship, to share in the Lord’s Supper, or to spread the Gospel) He is right there. Our spiritual faith tells us that He is where He says He is. So if this is what church is, are we really doing church the way Jesus wants us to? Our vision of church is oftentimes a big building filled with people. But Jesus didn’t have anything like that; a hillside, a well, an upper room, sometimes one-on-one. Why do we focus on building our church based on numbers instead of building a church based on encounters? If we make a deliberate effort to encounter our neighbors and show them both the love and power of God, His church will grow. Mark my words.
